Frequently asked
What does MyoHeat show?
A physics simulation of a lifter. For each moment of a rep it computes the joint moments the load and the body's own weight cause, then shares them between about 180 muscle bundles the way a body plausibly would (the least total effort). Each muscle is coloured by the share of the load it carries.
How accurate is it?
It is a model, not a measurement of you. It is checked against published measurements of moment arms, joint moments and muscle activity (EMG), and each exercise states whether its main muscles agree with the EMG literature. The credits page lists the models, the checks and the known errors.
Is it medical or training advice?
No. MyoHeat is an educational visualisation. Talk to a qualified professional before starting or changing exercise, especially with an injury or health condition.
Is my camera video uploaded?
Never. Tracking runs on your device and the video is not recorded or stored. See the privacy policy.
Camera mode can't find me
Step back until your whole body, feet included, is in the picture, in good light. Side-on views of squats and hinges track best. Tell camera mode what you are holding (bodyweight, dumbbells, a barbell), since the camera can't see weights.
Can I try camera mode without filming myself?
Yes: tap one of the nine demo videos under the camera buttons. They are exercise demonstrations by FitnessScape (CC BY 3.0), played and tracked on your device.
The camera doesn't start in the app
MyoHeat needs camera permission. On iOS: Settings → MyoHeat → Camera. On Android: Settings → Apps → MyoHeat → Permissions → Camera. You can also open a video from your library instead of using the camera.
Which devices does it run on?
Any recent browser with WebGL 2 on desktop, tablet or phone; the iOS app needs iOS 15 or later, the Android app Android 7 or later. On older phones camera mode may track at a lower frame rate.
Does it cost anything?
No. MyoHeat is free, with no ads, no accounts and no in-app purchases.
